Far from the Short Grass

The first book to deal with the story of men from Kildare – the Short Grass county – who volunteered to fight tyranny and oppression in two world wars.

From the blood-soaked beaches of Gallipoli to the green fields of France men from Kildare laid down their lives for the freedom of small nations. Thousands of Kildaremen served in the two great conflicts, while 567 Kildaremen made the supreme sacrifice in WWI and another thirty-five in WWII.

Taken from letters, newspaper accounts, personal narratives and author interviews this is their story, told in their own words. First published in 1999 this edition has twenty-eight pages of new photographs and material on Kildaremen in the two World Wars.

Updated Edition 2004. 288 pages, 60 photos, maps. Contains list and address of all Kildaremen killed in action in both wars.
